Violet is a special needs dog due to her past as an Amish puppy mill breeder.  Because of this, we are only considering someone to adopt her with experience with dogs from this type of situation.  She is NOT a candidate for adoption as a typical family dog, or even a Yorkie enthusiast who has not dealt with a discarded breeder dog before.  A fence will be a must for Violet.

We took Violet in from an area shelter.   Someone stepped up on her behalf and took her there when the breeding farm was done using her to make puppies.  She likely had lived her entire life caged, and with little or no positive interaction with humans.  She never experienced what it felt like to give or receive human love or affection, and understandably therefore, has a few issues.

Violet is not exactly fearful, but she has an aversion to being touched, petted, held, scratched, etc.  She will tolerate it if she must, but it is something that she endures rather than enjoys.  We are working on this with her, but she may never overcome this obstacle since she has been like this for such a long time.  Even so, she still enjoys being in the same room with her foster mom, and even sleeps on the bed, sometimes against her foster mom’s feet.  She allows herself to be picked up when she understands she must (like to be lifted onto the bed at night or put into her crate) and she will gladly take a treat from your hand, so long as an attempt at petting isn’t part of the bargain.

Violet is pretty reliably housebroken when someone is home to let her out, but will have accidents in the house when left alone so she must be crated when her person is away.   She will also have accidents in her crate, but doesn’t make a big mess of things.  If pads are used, cleanup is very easy.

This gal is about ten years young.  She’s a senior as best as our vet can tell, but you would never know it to look at her.  She had no dental care before she came to us, so after a thorough dental exam and treatment, she now has 9 teeth left, which is plenty for her to eat her kibble and biscuits, something she thoroughly enjoys.

She gets along great with the other dogs in the household - all sizes.  She loves watching TV and will bake at dogs and other animals that she sees on the screen.  Despite all she’s been through and her aversion to touch, she doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body.  She is good at the vet and acquiesces to being held without much fuss.

Violet may or may not ever allow herself to accept the simple affection of a loving stroke or caress, but she deserves a home of her own just the same.  She has obvious issues that make her a candidate for adoption by only a very special person that has the experience and willingness to accept her as she is if she cannot learn to be any other way.
