Update: This awesome dog has been selected to participate in our cell dog program.  Rebel will get basic obedience training and socialization in this program with selected inmates at the Trumbull Correctional Institution under the auspices of our professional dog trainer, Bill Oliver.  He will graduate from the program in April but you can visit him before he graduates to see if he is the right dog for you and your family.

Update 2/20/12 - Rebel had his first ever grooming appointment yesterday and he went through it with flying colors.  He is having so many "firsts" - it is quite exciting.  He is such a cuddle bug.  He'd love nothing better than to snuggle up on the couch right next to you and settle.  He enjoys walking outside on a leash and smelling everything.  He smells so good after his grooming appointment and his coat is so shinny!  He's ready to meet his fur-ever family!

Update - 2/1/12 - Rebel was a fantastic guest in my home over the weekend.  He is completely house trained.  He was alert and interested in many "new" sounds.  He settled easily and enjoyed being right next to me as I moved from room to room in the house.  He enjoyed being on a leash and outside for potty and exercise breaks.  He slept very soundly the second night.  He was not crated and had no trouble with the barricade in the kitchen area.  He responded with curiousity as new people entered my home and when told it was "ok" he perked up and was comfortable with the energy level of the busy household.  He would not do stairs yet.  He whined a bit because we were outside his sight.  With encouragement and more time - I am confident he would have tried the stairs.  No need to rush all the new experiences.  He really enjoyed human affection.  He allowed complete body hugs from me (did not try this with children yet).  He enjoyed belly rubs.  He is recovering from neuter and tail dock so wore an e-collar for most of his visit and tolerated this very well.  Although we suspect he is new to vet care, he allowed the vet techs and vet to do what they need to do and didn't fuss.  What a great boy!  He took his medicine well, with a bit of cheese wrap.  Once he gets his stitches out of his tail - in about 10 days, he will be ready for his new fur-ever family.  You can come by the Shelter and meet him to see if he is a good fit for your family.  He is a charmer and worth a meet and greet. He needs to get settled in his fur-ever home/  He was just starting to figure out his toys.  He probably never had toys before so he is a bit of toy hoarder and will have to learn to play with them.

Update - Rebel will be going into a temporary foster home this weekend to get an update on his house training status and his social skills.  He is also scheduled to get neutered this week and his tail docked because his roommate decided to use his tail as a chew toy.  So - he's getting all prettied up and will be ready for a new home this weekend.

Rebel
" I was brought into the shelter with my "fur family" as an owner surrender. We were all so terrified to be at the shelter (especially me!) Our volunteers and the staff have been working with the three of us, and boy we have come around! I love to get treats, and play fetch, although my brothers are more into playing fetch than myself. I am still timid with new things, situations, and strangers, but I know that I am a love bug! Would you please come visit myself, "fur family", and my other canine friends at the shelter?"
