Bert
When he came to our farm, he was afraid of everything - horses, cows, deer, dogs, and even our donkey that stays with the cattle. He would only bark at things bigger than himself. Now he goes to the barn with my husband every morning at 5:30 and is no longer frightened of the cows. They are as curious about him as he is about them, and once in a while they touch noses through the gate. However, Bert still barks vigorously at the donkey that just stands off in the barn and watches him!
Bert is excellent around our 22-month old daughter. She delights in getting graham crackers and running through the house with Bert following closely at her heels. He never takes one on his own, but as soon as she offers, Bert is more than happy to oblige.
He sleeps in bed with us and is not a night owl. When inside, he wants to be a lap dog or sleep on the couch above or beside one of us. But when he is out on the leash he is the traditional beagle - nose to ground and scenting/trailing as fast as you can walk!
