Peyton
It's been just about a year since we've adopted Jaeger into our home and couldn't be happier. His birth name was Peyton, but being from Pittsburgh and staunch Steelers fans, we knew our friends would disown us if we kept that as his name. Being a German Hunting Hound, Jaeger (pronounced Yea-grrrr) was a much better fit. We affectionately refer to him as our not-so-little Heartworm since he has burrowed his way deep into ours. His original posting on the site has a few errors on it as far as his temperament and characteristics go. He was listed as not good with kids. Over the past year, he has proven to be very friendly with our neighbor's 2 year old and other neighborhood kids, although he is still growing into the catcher's mitts he was given for paws and doesn't realize his size all of the time. He is also very friendly with both men AND women, aside from his insistence that everyone pet him or give him a good belly scratching. He is a very affectionate pooch and despite his almost "80 very healthy pounds" (according to our vet) he can't resist cuddling up on our laps for a night of Animal Planet on TV.
When we first got Jaeger (Peyton), we were told he had been through a couple adoption attempts. He has a tendency to bully other dogs for attention, but has never shown any aggression, more like just vying for a good old scratchin'. At first, due to being in and out of homes, he was pretty inanimate when interacting with us. He wasn't nervous or skittish unless someone or something scared him like a loud motorcycle or truck exhaust. One time my girlfriend and I even thought we saw bats flying around in the belfry behind his empty stares at us. He has come completely out of his shell and is chock full of personality, sometimes even comedic. We have a 10 year old Wire Hair/Pointer rescue (Angel) that has had the run of the house for the first 9 years of her life. She and Jaeger share a love-hate relationship, but always has his back at the local dog park. All in all Jaeger has been a great addition to our home. He is a wonderful, caring, loveable hound and we are really glad we have been able to provide him a loving and secure forever home. Thanks Rose's Rescue for giving us the chance to meet and fall in love with our new family member.
