About Shasta

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black
  • Current Age: 14 Years 3 Months (best estimate)
This precious darling was brought into the pound while a couple of our volunteers happened to be there.  They felt she was just too little of a gal to be all alone in that noisy, scary place, so she came home with one of them and is now a foster puppy!   She is busy learning all the things a puppy should at this age and is content to sleep in her crate.  She also loves the snow which makes potty lessons much easier!  Shasta appears to be about eight weeks young, and we really don't have any idea what breed she is but she's got kind of wavy ears and her hair looks like it's going to be medium length or even longer.  At any rate, we are guessing that she won't be too big when full grown as she only weighs a little over five lbs now.  See how small she is in the video with the tennis ball as a size-comparison.  The one thing we DO know about her for certain is that she is absolutley adorable!

If you are considering adopting Shasta, please remember that puppies this young will need you now more than ever because this is the age when they begin to understand structure and routine. It is recommended that they not go to a home where an owner is at work - or not present - for up to 8 - 9 hours each day. The longest they should be left alone is for 3 or 4 hours at a time during the first month or so after being adopted, and even that is a long time during the few weeks after being weaned.  Besides the fact that their bodies are not developed enough to “hold it” when they are this young, leaving them crated or unattended for hours on end will not offer them the love, attention, socialization, exercise, or training that they will need to become the adult dogs you want them to be for their lifetime - and your lifetime too.  Also, puppies this young will be better suited to a home without very young children.

So, if you think you have the time and patience for a new four-legged baby in your life, you can easily fill out an adoption application by clicking here: adoption application
