Lydia is a very special dog and we are looking for a very special family for her.  Here is her story:

She came to us shortly after arrival at the pound – underweight and VERY pregnant.  A day later, she whelped nine healthy puppies and was a wonderful mama to them all.   Once her babies were all adopted, we could focus on bringing her back to A-1 condition.  She needed to put on quite a bit of weight, grow her coat back in that she had lost during the pregnancy and allow time for various sores and scars to finish healing from either previous neglect or just trying to survive on her own.  She was JUST starting to get back to ideal form when it was time to get her spayed.  Complications developed a day later and we almost lost her due to some internal tearing and subsequent bleeding.  But Dr. Tiffany and her staff at Boston Heights Veterinary Hospital would not give up on her and she pulled through.  This poor girl is truly a survivor if there ever was one.

Lydia is sweet and gentle, though can bark and be protective of strangers approaching the house.  She loves having the companionship of her foster sisters, but she does need some time to be introduced to new dogs and then more time to bond with them.  She has a pretty calm disposition, though enjoys getting wound up with the other dogs when it's time to play.  Despite some gray in her muzzle and some stray white hairs in her coat, the vet estimates her to be only about three years old.

We know that Lydia has had a hard life up to now, and we think that she's had about as much hardship as any dog should ever have to endure.  We are looking for a home where not only will she be provided and cared for, but where she will be spoiled and doted on for the rest of what should be a very long life!  We think she deserves nothing less, and she's earned it, too!
